The latest from teacher and forager, Max Gordon 01/01/2023
Here is your weekly dose of Foraging Friday, a list of what I’m pondering and exploring. I hope you’re having a great holiday season! Thank you for supporting my work. Please consider checking out these seasonal products for you are your family:
1) Homebiotic: household products that protect your home
2) Wildingshoes: minimal shoes that naturally strengthen feet
In addition, I’m excited to offer group classes for students who want to learn survival skills, here in South Florida.
What i’m researching
The following is an excerpt from a 2015 paper by Michael Rampino called “Volcanic winter in the Garden of Eden: The Toba supereruption and the late Pleistocene human population crash”
“The Toba eruption (ca. 73,500 B.P., Indonesia) was the largest explosive eruption of the last few hundred thousand years…
Genetic studies indicate that sometime prior to ca. 60,000 yr ago humans suffered a severe population bottleneck (possibly only 3,000–10,000 individuals), followed eventually by rapid population increase, technological innovations, and migrations.
The climatic effects of the paroxysmal Toba eruption could have caused the bottleneck, and the event might have been a catalyst for the technological innovations and migrations that followed.”
Quote i’m pondering
“Ten thousand years since turning from an ancient path our ancestors trod forever, it’s time for a scientifically, multidisciplinary look at the effects of this fateful divergence.” – Chris Ryan
Videos i’m creating: Magical Moringa
Have a wonderful weekend, all.
Much love to you and yours,
Max
